嘉義東石福海宮有一個特別的習俗，爐主會在廟前掛公燈讓大家拜拜普渡，信眾拜完就會擲筊把爐丹帶回家保平安，而爐丹就是俗稱的香灰，有的居民甚至還會在家門口用斗笠掛出公燈，也是要祭拜好兄弟祈福順遂。

民眾：「掛燈，爐主掛燈。」

農曆7月，爐主在廟前掛上公燈，信眾們繞圈跪拜，嘉義東石塭港福海宮最特別的是這個，拿金紙當容器靠近香敲一敲，小心摺起來收好，這是被長輩們視為保平安的重要任務「撿爐丹」，其實就是俗稱的撿香灰。

信眾吳先生：「家裡長輩身體不好或小朋友生病好不了，就撿爐丹回來保平安，或是農曆7/27，返鄉回家普渡1年1次，也會跟普渡公求爐丹帶回去保平安。」

地方耆老：「農曆7/27很多人，差不多2、3百人，全庄頭的人都會來。」

嘉義東石塭港信眾們拜拜普渡，不只撿爐丹，有的人還會在家門口掛上這樣一盞燈。

把燈泡掛在斗笠裡，用芒草綁起來掛在家門口。這是東石農曆7月限定景象。

當地居民陳小姐：「我們農曆7月，都會擺這種公燈，保平安拜普渡公，拜好兄弟。」

農曆7月祭拜好兄弟，信眾們保平安小妙招，擲筊撿爐丹、家門掛公燈越來越少見，儼然成為地方特色。
